FAWM 2021 #12: Silence of Snow

Another stringband waltz, this time with lyrics inspired by the last weekend before FAWM: we had our first real snowfall of the winter, and I spotted a fox working up from our wood backyard, climbing our snowy driveway to the street.

Lyrics

Red fur on white, the fox on the prowl.
Hungry, she follows her nose.

Searching at twilight, through frosted town,
Silent as her footsteps on fresh-fallen snow.

Worried, she wanders, wending her way,
An unwary rabbit, brought back to her den,

Or a shivering squirrel, at the end of the day
Keeps her kits fed, until spring comes again.

(solo)

Katydids, lawn mowers: all summer's sounds
Faded away when snow kissed the ground

The gnaw of the winter, now gives way to spring,
Ice drips, and snow melts, as green shoots rise.

Thawing to welcome new-born spring.
