FAWM 2025 #10: Cadillac Infarction

I'm imagining a Bakersfield-style arrangement for this one, but don't have the time or energy to do the production work. I can hear the melody in my head, but won't be recording it during FAWM.

Lyrics

(spoken) There I was, just got off the freeway in Abingdon, and drivin' down Highway 58 to visit my sister in Damascus. When....

I ... had ... a ...

Cadillac infarction,
A King-sized distraction,
I might commit a big infraction
While I'm drivin' down the road.

Who knew pain and mis'ry
Come as optional access'ries
To a life that's lived in luxury,
I'd better lighten up my load.

I could walk several miles
In another person's shoes.
Or maybe work to give some smiles
To folks who've got the blues.

(spoken) Tears were streaming down my face so bad I had to pull the car over onto the shoulder. I sat there, thinking about the choices I've made, even to the car I was driving....

I sure do love the smooth ride,
That power steering just glides,
And the big old engine inside?
Why "It's the standard of the world!"

But how can just a car compare
With something that is much more rare,
Worth every penny I can spare,
A beautiful, priceless pearl.

Maybe walk several miles
In another person's shoes.
Or work to give some smiles
To folks who've got the blues.

(spoken) So I said to myself, ....

If I ... don't ... want

Another Cadillac infarction,
An allergic reaction
To the fruits of my inaction,
I guess I'd better mend my ways.

If I'm feelin' like Saul of Tarsus,
I could trade my Caddy for a Taurus,
Then I'll be ready for the chorus,
As they sing Amazing Grace.

Then I can finally join the chorus
as they sing:

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound....."
