FAWM 2019 #2: Ballad of Willy and Jenny

"Froggy Went a Courtin'" meets "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", maybe?

Lyrics

Willy Muskrat looked for pretty Jenny Squirrel,
Hoping to ask her if she would be his girl.
Knowing that others would fuss and disapprove,
He knew he had to tell her of his love.

This is the ballad of Jenny and Will,
They cling to each other, I can see them still.
They don't care what anybody has to say:
Their love is here to stay.

"Jenny, O Jenny, won't you take my hand?
I know our families may not understand,
But my love for you is deep and true.
Can I spend the rest of my life with you?"

"Willy, O Willy, I'd like to come along.
I know I care for your, my heart beats strong.
How can my parents turn their heads aside
When the see our love come walking by?"

This is the ballad of Willy and Jenny,
They know they’re rich, tho’ the don’t have one penny.
They don't care what anybody has to say:
Their love is here to stay.

"Jenny, O Jenny, do you love me enough?
My mama told me that true love's path was rough.
I want you with me for the rest of my life.
Please say that you will be my wife."

"Willy, O Willy, I will stay by your side.
No matter what comes, I will be your bride.
My father swears that we will never wed,
But I'll cast my lot with you instead."

This is the ballad of Jenny and Will,
They cling to each other, I can see them still.
They don't care what anybody has to say:
Their love is here to stay."

Jenny, O Jenny, please come away with me.
Together we'll make a life, just you wait and see.
One day, perhaps, we'll meet them by and by.
Everyone will see our love and sigh."

This is the ballad of Willy and Jenny,
They know they’re rich, tho’ the don’t have one penny.
They don't care what anybody has to say:
Their love is here to stay.

Their love is here to stay.
