FAWM 2024 #2: Here's to the Spirits
Skirmish prompt: "Ghosts and Spirits"
Lyrics
There are spirits we hear in the moan of the wind,
Those who abide in an uncanny place.
But the ones who touch us are the ones that we find
In the smiles or the tears of a stranger's face.
Here's to the spirits who clamor,
Here's to the spirits who're dumb,
Here's to the spirits we meet
In the faces of those down the street.
Haunted, unwanted, ecstatic, forlorn,
Tugging at heartstings, bringing warmth to our hearts (souls?)
Great clouds of witness. cacaphonies of woe,
We meet them whereever we go.
Here's to the spirits who mourn,
Here's to the spirits who dance,
Here's to the spirits embracing us
In the hearts of the ones we hold dear.
Not in the earthquake,
Nor yet in the fire,
But a still small voice in our ears.
Beyond all knowing,
Beyond all desire,
May we listen, straining, to hear.
Here's to the spirits who mourn,
Here's to the spirits who dance,
Here's to the spirits embracing us
In the hearts of the ones we hold dear.
